There are several options for transportation from Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO) in Greensboro to the hotel in Winston-Salem:
Airport Shuttle Service: approximately $28.00 one way (per person) from the airport.
Taxi Cabs: are available at a rate of approximately $35 one way.
Hotel Parking: both valet and self-parking are available.
Charter Bus: Dean is looking into chartering a bus service that would depart Greensboro airport approximately every hour on Wednesday (October 26) and Sunday (October 30). The cost for this would be approximately $10 each way. If you are interested in this service, email your name, airline and flight numbers, arrival and departure days and times to treasurer [at] nasss [dot] org, ASAP. Dean will confirm the pick up times via email at the end of September.
The 26th Annual Conference of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport will be held October 26-29, 2005 at the Adams Mark Hotel in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA. This year's theme is "Sport / Empires / Globalization" and attempts to reflect both continuity and change in the broad context in which scholars discuss and theorize sport. As always, the NASSS Conference welcomes sessions both related and unrelated to the conference theme, and on issues related not only to sport, but also to the body and physical activity. Those who wish to propose panels, workshops, sessions, or other ideas for the conference should contact the Program Chair:

Deadline for Session Proposals is Monday, May 2.
Many contemporary social thinkers have grappled with the implications of a global order characterized by rapidly shifting systems of economic and cultural exchange. In identifying "Sport / Empires / Globalization" as this year's conference theme, the NASSS Program Committee wished to recognize the emerging economic, political, and cultural context of current manifestations of sport. What insights into inequalities, power, and the body in sport are advanced by notions of empire(s) as parts of globalization processes? In identifying these themes, the committee wished to continue to foster the "interdisciplinary dialogues" that were the hallmark of last year's conference. For more information, please contact any member of the 2005 NASSS Program Committee:
In addition to keynote speakers, panels, poster and paper sessions, this year's conference will feature seminars, in which small groups prepare and exchange position papers on key issues, and a roundtable session on collaborative research. This year will also continue the Saturday Spotlight Session, and a Graduate Student Workshop.
Reminder: A call seeking papers and posters will be issued soon after the 2005 sessions have been submitted and finalized. The deadline for papers and posters submitted for the 2005 NASSS Conference will be mid July. Look for the Call for Paper and Poster Abstracts (including important information on online submissions), in addition to further details on keynotes and other conference highlights coming soon on this Web site.
Best wishes,
Steve Walk, Program Chair
