WHAT IS NASSServ?

NASSServ is the unofficial listserv of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport. Membership in NASSServ is limited to members of NASSS and to members of the International Sport Sociology Association (ISSA). At present, it consists of approximately 300 subscribers from over 13 countries including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, The Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, The UK, and The USA.

The list was created to facilitate on-line academic discussions and information exchange by professionals in these fields. Uses have included discussions on issues of concern; distribution of requests for help in information gathering for research or personal interest; calls for papers; announcements of positions available, new publications, and grant opportunities; and notices about conferences. In other words, we encourage the posting of any item of interest to subscribers. List discussions are initiated and sustained by NASSServ members.

For more information see the Info Page, a description of NASSServ's purpose which is sent to all new subscribers when they join. For subsequent viewing of the page, send an e-mail message to majordomo [at] listserv.bc.edu and in the message body type:

info nassserv
end

Majordomo will then send you back an e-mail message containing the info file text.

RECEIVING AND SENDING MESSAGES

Once subscribed you will automatically receive a copy of all messages send to the list. NASSServ is unmoderated; that is, neither the list owner nor manager censor or otherwise interfere with outgoing messages.

Thus, once subscribed to NASSServ you may send any message, however, common sense suggests that messages should relate to the topics pertinent to the scholarly study of sport.

Once subscribed, you can send a message to all current subscribers by addressing your message to nassserv [at] listserv.bc.edu.

Each list subscriber will get a copy of your message and you will get an acknowledgement that the message has been distributed. Only valid subscribers may post messages to this list. Our etiquette requires that all postings be signed. Anonymous posters will be contacted by the list manager and reminded of this policy; repeat offenders may be removed from the listserv.
